Do you and your child spend time watching JJ, YoYo and TomTom on YouTube’s CoComelon channel?
I recently discovered that my daughter’s favorite animated music videos average more than 3.5 billion views per month. In fact, CoComelon, a collection of 3D animated songs for toddlers, is the most watched YouTube channel in the world.
Now CoComelon has a new owner, Moonbug Entertainment… and plans for expansion.
“Cocomelon has the potential to be the biggest property in the world when it comes to kids.”
That’s what Rene Rechtman, CEO of Moonbug Entertainment, told Bloomberg reporter Lucas Shaw about the YouTube channel that’s captivating children around the globe — mine included.
My daughter is nearly three years old, and constantly begs to watch the ongoing series of videos about toddler JJ and his family and friends that focus on “letters, numbers, animal sounds, colors, and more” and “impart prosocial life lessons.”
Now these popular animations are coming to life. Moonbug Entertainment is launching a line of toys available for pre-order on Amazon and Walmart, including a musical JJ bedtime doll and doctor’s kit. The company promises more details on a full product line that will be available at the end of the summer.
CoComelon’s reach also is expanding to include popular streaming services. Netflix is joining the craze, adding three hour-long episodes of animated songs. Roku introduced CoComelon to its streaming channel in May. And CoComelon songs, which are comprised of both familiar nursery rhyme melodies and original ones, are available in four volumes on services like Spotify, Amazon Music and iHeartRadio, among others.
So for those parents who hadn’t yet heard about CoComelon or its expansion, buckle up. And if you catch yourself humming one of the channel’s tunes about potty training or bedtime, well, you’re certainly not alone.
